My friend who was injured in the tennis accident I recounted yesterday may well be cursing his hard luck, but if he has had the chance to read about another tennis accident from the newspaper while staying at the hospital, he might well change his mind. On New Year Day, a seventyish old man lost his life during a tennis accident. While playing tennis with his wife, he tripped when trying to retrieve a ball, lost his balance and banged his forehead against a curb at the side of the court. He was rushed to hospital but was later confirmed dead after treatment.
His wife was devastated. She had expected that her husband, who exercised regularly and had very good health, would live a long life. "Who would have thought that he would pass away before me?" she said.
Life is just so unpredictable. This is a sad lesson, but an important one to learn at the start of a new year.
