Small gesture, big impact

It was a small gesture, but a big demonstration of exquisite service.

I was enjoying the appetiser when the waiter of this posh Shanghaiese restaurant at which I was having dinner yesterday came forward and unintrusively adjusted my chopstick holder. He had paid attention to the fact that I was a lefty and the chopstick holder had been placed at my right hand side.

That might have been the outcome of good, rigorous training, but that was a thoughtful, customised gesture all the same. Overall, the quality of the service was as high as that of the food and, I have to say, as high as the price, too. But it was worth every penny of it.
